Islam Makhachev is chasing UFC history, Ian Machado Garry is hunting one of the biggest upsets of the year, and Canada could crown a new champion at UFC 330.

UFC 330 has everything you could want from a major fight card: history on the line, a dangerous underdog with nothing to lose, a championship fight loaded with intrigue, and several matchups that could end with someone staring at the arena lights.

But almost every conversation begins with one question:

Can Ian Machado Garry actually beat Islam Makhachev?

Makhachev enters UFC 330 with an opportunity to separate himself from some of the greatest fighters the sport has ever seen. A victory would give him 17 consecutive UFC wins, moving him beyond the legendary Anderson Silva’s streak of 16.

Standing across from him is Garry, a confident Irish contender who has spent years telling anyone willing to listen that becoming UFC champion was inevitable.

Now he gets the opportunity to prove it.

Here are our UFC 330 predictions, picks and fight breakdowns, including Makhachev vs. Garry, Mackenzie Dern vs. Gillian Robertson and the biggest fights on Saturday’s card.

Islam Makhachev vs. Ian Machado Garry Prediction

This might be one of the most fascinating stylistic challenges Islam Makhachev has faced.

Ian Machado Garry possesses several attributes that could make life uncomfortable for the champion.

He’s long. He’s intelligent. He manages distance extremely well. And unlike many fighters who enter a championship bout feeling pressured to entertain, Garry appears perfectly comfortable winning a calculated tactical fight.

If Garry can keep Makhachev at the end of his strikes, constantly change angles and avoid prolonged grappling exchanges, the upset becomes much easier to imagine.

The problem?

He has to do it for potentially 25 minutes against one of the most complete fighters in MMA.

Makhachev’s biggest advantage remains obvious: his wrestling and positional control.

Garry showed toughness and defensive ability in his fight with Shavkat Rakhmonov, but he also demonstrated that an elite grappler can force him into uncomfortable situations.

Makhachev doesn’t necessarily need to dominate every second of the fight. He simply needs Garry to make one mistake.

A poorly timed kick, an aggressive combination or a moment of overextension could provide Makhachev with the entry he needs to turn a striking battle into a wrestling match.

And once Makhachev begins controlling where the fight takes place, Garry’s length becomes significantly less valuable.

Garry may have enough defensive ability to survive all five rounds, and he could certainly steal a round or two through movement and precision striking.

But surviving Makhachev and beating Makhachev are two completely different challenges.

Prediction: Islam Makhachev by decision

Expect Garry to have moments, particularly early, but Makhachev’s wrestling, defense and championship experience should eventually take control.

Pick: Islam Makhachev

Mackenzie Dern vs. Gillian Robertson Prediction

Canada could be celebrating a UFC champion by the end of Saturday night.

Gillian Robertson gets an enormous opportunity against newly crowned strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern, and this matchup could be far more competitive than casual fans expect.

Dern’s Brazilian jiu-jitsu credentials are unquestionable. If the fight becomes a scrambling submission battle, very few fighters in the division will willingly play that game with her.

Robertson, however, might actually need to.

Sounds dangerous, right?

Absolutely.

But Robertson’s path to victory could involve aggressively pursuing takedowns and controlling Dern from top position rather than allowing the champion to dictate the pace.

Dern is incredibly dangerous when she can create submission opportunities, but Robertson may be able to win exchanges through activity, ground control and consistent damage.

The biggest risk for Robertson could actually come on the feet.

Dern’s striking has improved considerably throughout her UFC career, and she may carry more explosive power in traditional boxing exchanges.

Robertson needs to make this fight uncomfortable.

Push Dern backward. Force grappling exchanges. Stay active from top position. Avoid giving Dern enough space to attack submissions.

If Robertson can accomplish those things, Canada could have another UFC champion.

Prediction: Gillian Robertson by fourth-round TKO

This is a risky upset pick, but Robertson’s activity and ground-and-pound could eventually become the difference.

Pick: Gillian Robertson

Jalin Turner vs. Kaue Fernandes Prediction

This fight could be absolute chaos.

Jalin Turner remains one of the most physically imposing lightweights on the UFC roster. His combination of height, reach and finishing ability means Fernandes cannot afford many mistakes.

Turner has finished every one of his professional victories.

That tells you everything you need to know about the danger.

But Kaue Fernandes possesses a weapon specifically designed to make life miserable for taller opponents:

Leg kicks.

Fernandes has shown a willingness to repeatedly attack the lower body, and Turner’s long frame provides an enormous target.

If Fernandes can damage Turner’s lead leg early, the entire fight could change.

Turner’s movement becomes slower. His ability to generate power becomes compromised. His stance becomes less stable.

The danger is surviving long enough to make that strategy work.

Turner only needs one clean counter to completely change the fight.

Prediction: Kaue Fernandes

Expect Fernandes to aggressively attack the legs and attempt to remove Turner’s biggest physical advantages.

Pick: Kaue Fernandes

Mansur Abdul-Malik vs. Dustin Stoltzfus Prediction

Mansur Abdul-Malik suffered the first loss of his professional career against Yousri Belgaroui, but that defeat may ultimately help his development.

Now he gets a matchup where his biggest strengths should have plenty of opportunities to appear.

Abdul-Malik is powerful, aggressive and extremely dangerous when opponents allow him to dictate striking exchanges.

Dustin Stoltzfus has proven capable of competing with experienced UFC opposition, but his defensive vulnerabilities could become a major problem here.

Abdul-Malik doesn’t need a complicated strategy.

Pressure.

Close distance.

Throw with bad intentions.

His defensive game remains something to monitor going forward, but Stoltzfus may struggle to survive Abdul-Malik’s early offensive explosion.

Prediction: Mansur Abdul-Malik by first-round knockout

Anything can happen at middleweight, but Abdul-Malik appears built for this matchup.

Pick: Mansur Abdul-Malik

Esteban Ribovics vs. Edson Barboza Prediction

There are few fighters in UFC history more entertaining than Edson Barboza.

The spinning kicks. The body attacks. The terrifying leg kicks.

Barboza has produced some of the most memorable striking highlights MMA has ever seen.

Unfortunately, time eventually catches everyone.

Esteban Ribovics enters this fight as the younger and more physically aggressive fighter, and his most obvious strategy will be to pressure Barboza from the opening bell.

That’s easier said than done.

Even late in his career, Barboza remains dangerous enough to punish anyone who becomes reckless.

Ribovics needs to respect the veteran’s kicking game while steadily forcing him backward and increasing the pace.

Barboza may still give fans one more reminder of why opponents feared standing across from him for so many years.

But eventually, youth and pressure should take over.

Prediction: Esteban Ribovics

Expect an entertaining striking battle before Ribovics pulls away.

Pick: Esteban Ribovics

Could UFC 330 Change the GOAT Conversation?

That might be the biggest storyline of the entire weekend.

Islam Makhachev has already built one of the most impressive résumés of his generation, but another championship victory would add something nobody else in UFC history has accomplished: 17 consecutive wins inside the Octagon.

Records alone don’t determine the greatest fighter ever.

Quality of competition matters.

Championship defenses matter.

Longevity matters.

Dominance matters.

But every additional victory makes Makhachev’s case harder to ignore.

And that’s exactly why Ian Machado Garry has so much to gain.

If Garry becomes the fighter who ends Makhachev’s historic streak while simultaneously capturing UFC gold, it could instantly become one of the defining moments of his career.

That’s what makes UFC 330 so compelling.

One fighter is trying to move closer to immortality.

The other is trying to become the man who stopped him.

Saturday night will tell us which story gets written.
